about

In 2004 Godard released "Notre Musique." Formally, the movie corresponds to Dante's "Divine Comedy." From a content perspective, the correspondence loosely applies. The "Inferno" section is comprised of documentary and feature-film footage of war. The "Pergatorio" section is set in Sarajevo during a literary/humanities conference that Godard attends as himself. The title for my second song (that relates to this portion of the movie) marks three themes/episodes: a makeshift library that is haunted by ghosts of past oppression; a bridge that has been destroyed and rebuilt from the Middle Ages until today due to recurring war, and a young woman who is willing to "die for peace." The "Paradiso" section portrays a concept of heaven that must be guarded by imperialist militarism. This is my favorite Godard movie because, at least from my perspective, it touches on the goodness, the frailties and the evil of that pervades all of humanity.
