about

In 1988, Polish director Krzysztof Kielslowski released "The Dekalog," a ten-piece film inspired by the mandates of The Ten Commandments. It was originally produced for Polish television, with each installment slightly under an hour in length. Wikipedia reports that the entire project's budget was $100,000! I remember seeing it over a three-night run at Facets in Chicago. Facets also released the original DVD; however, a newer package has been released by The Criterion Collection.

Like all of Kieslowski's projects, the original music was composed by the incomparable Zbigniew Preisner. My music, of course, cannot compare to Preisner's original score, which is sparse and hauntingly beautiful. Nevertheless, the ten installments have made a deep impact on me, and I want to try my hand at composing some short compositions for each of them.
